Jan Aushadhi Kendra: Under the Central Government's Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), individuals can open Jan Aushadhi Kendras at low cost. These centers have been established in 776 out of the country's 784 districts, providing generic medicines at prices significantly lower than market rates.

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana is making affordable medicines available to the common man and boosting employment. Thanks to this scheme, 20,149 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have opened across the country so far. The Central Government informed Parliament that people have saved approximately ₹45,000 crore under this scheme. Currently, the scheme is implemented in 776 out of 784 districts nationwide. The product basket includes all generic medicines listed in the 'National List of Essential Medicines,' excluding vaccines and lab reagents.

Under the Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, people have saved around ₹45,000 crore compared to the cost of branded medicines. The scheme offers 2,110 types of medicines and 315 surgical items, medical consumables, and pieces of equipment. The range includes medicines for cancer, diabetes, allergies, and gastrointestinal disorders, as well as nutraceuticals.

Government Assistance for Opening a Jan Aushadhi Kendra

The government provides ₹2 lakh to set up a Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra and supplies medicines to the shop owner at rates below market price. It also offers a 20% commission on medicine sales and incentives for higher sales volumes.

Who can open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra? Anyone can open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra. The government provides ₹2 lakh for purchasing furniture, computers, refrigerators, etc., for the center. To open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra, you need a space of at least 120 square feet; this space can also be rented.

You must have a registered pharmacist available. Details regarding their name and registration must be provided at the time of approval for the Jan Aushadhi Kendra. If you belong to categories such as ex-servicemen, persons with disabilities (Divyang), SC/ST, or reside in aspirational districts, Himalayan regions, island territories, or North-Eastern states, you must submit the relevant certificate and an undertaking.

Application fee is ₹5,000

A non-refundable application fee of ₹5,000 is required to open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra. However, this fee is waived for women entrepreneurs, persons with disabilities (Divyang), SC/ST candidates, ex-servicemen, and entrepreneurs from aspirational districts (identified by NITI Aayog), Himalayan regions, island territories, and North-Eastern states; these individuals can apply free of cost.

How to apply

Visit the official website: janaushadhi.gov.in.
Click on 'Apply For Kendra' in the menu on the home page.
On the new page that opens, click on 'Click Here To Apply'.
A sign-in form will appear; select the 'Register Now' option located below it.
Fill in the required details on the registration form that appears on the screen.
Select the state from the drop-down box and enter the password in the 'Confirm Password' section.
Tick the 'Terms and Conditions' box and then click the 'SUBMIT' button.
