Muscat: The Indian women’s hockey team performed brilliantly at the FIH Youth Hockey Fives Asian Championships and finished runners-up. In the final match played on Saturday, Team India lost 2-4 against China. However, India has secured its place for the FIH Youth Hockey Fives World Cup by showing excellent performance throughout the tournament.
Earlier in the day, in the semi-finals played, the Indian team defeated Kazakhstan by a big score of 8-1 and with this entered the finals.
In the final, China made a strong start and took the lead in the very first minute with a goal by Tongtong Lu. Kexin Tang doubled China’s lead in the fifth minute, followed by Jiaxin Guo a minute later to make it 3–0.
India tried to make a comeback and scored the first point through Nausheen Naz’s goal in the 13th minute. But in the 19th minute, Chen Ge scored a goal and again increased China’s lead to three goals. In the last minutes, Pushpa Manjhi scored the second goal for India, but the team could not succeed in reducing the gap and China won the match 4-2 and won the title.
In view of the excellent performance of the Indian team in the tournament, Hockey India announced a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh to each player and Rs 50,000 to each member of the support staff.
