Manchester United have changed their position on selling Joshua Zirkzee this summer, with INEOS not prepared to approve a permanent exit after the Dutch forward stood out in the Reds’ 5-0 pre-season victory over Rosenborg.
According to TuttoSport, as reported by The People’s Person, United have not given up on their No.11 and will not consider a permanent sale this summer despite reported interest from Serie A. At the very most, the club would be open to discussing a loan deal with no option to buy.
Zirkzee’s two moments of quality that left the Rosenborg defence and goalkeeper completely wrong-footed before he finished the move served as a timely reminder of why INEOS paid £36.5 million to sign him from Bologna two summers ago. His return at United — nine goals across two seasons in all competitions — has repeatedly frustrated, but his link-up play and his ability to drop deep and help connect attacks

With Benjamin Sesko still recovering from injury, United currently do not have a senior alternative leading the line. That situation has opened the door for Zirkzee.
The decision carries financial complications under the new squad cost ratio (SCR) and sustainability and systemic resilience regulations. As The Sun has reported, United would need to sell Zirkzee for at least £22 million to comply with the new squad cost ratio and sustainability and systemic resilience regulations without recording a loss. Given his inconsistent Premier League record, securing that amount in the current window is far from certain.
Juventus are among the clubs keeping an eye on the situation, but whether the Bianconeri would agree to a loan without a purchase option — INEOS’s preferred stance — is a different matter.
That would suit INEOS: either they receive a substantial fee later on, or they bring him back into the squad. Neither outcome is guaranteed, but the logic behind the decision is to avoid taking a financial hit and not crystallising a loss.
