Remarkable pre-season: Bayern and Dortmund lose to third-tier sides

European football’s pre-season preparations are already in motion, with clubs having started their first friendly matches. Even so, what unfolded in the Bundesliga is quite eye-catching.
Borussia Dortmund were beaten at noon in Germany by Fortuna Düsseldorf, who are currently in the 3. Liga. FC Bayern also suffered defeat, going down to Wehen Wiesbaden, a side from the third division.
Even though both teams largely used youth players and substitutes, it is still unusual that, as Germany’s two biggest clubs, they ended up losing to third-division opposition.
It is worth recalling that Bayern and Dortmund will meet in the German Super Cup on August 22.
