As per Il Corriere della Sera, Paolo Maldini’s call to name Andrea Pirlo as Italy’s new head coach is not backed by everyone inside the FIGC, while Roberto Mancini is unhappy with President Giovanni Malagò.

The former Milan and Juventus midfield great Pirlo is all set to be named the new Italy coach, with an official announcement from the Italian Federation expected in the next few days.

The move has been decided by new technical director Maldini and his adviser Leonardo, and it will be ratified by FIGC President Malagò. Maldini was handed the authority to pick the new coach after taking up the technical director role only two weeks ago.

Corriere della Sera says Malagò’s preferred choice was Mancini, but Maldini and Leonardo had the final say and chose Pirlo instead.

According to the report, there are reservations among FIGC members over Pirlo’s appointment. Even so, the final decision rests with Maldini and Leonardo, who have already made up their minds.

Their choice has angered Mancini, Corriere reports, as the former Azzurri boss was prepared for a second spell after leaving Al-Sadd in June.

Corriere della Sera says Mancini ‘feels abandoned’ and is upset with the federation and Malagò for not getting the job.
