According to experts, cleanliness and proper care of eyes is very important during monsoon. Some easy home remedies can help protect eyes from infections. However, if there is a problem like severe pain in the eyes, blurred vision or continuous discharge of pus, an eye specialist should be contacted immediately.

Home remedies for eye care in rain

wash eyes with cool clean water
It is a good habit to wash the eyes with cold and clean water after coming home from outside during the rainy season. This removes dust, allergy causing particles and bacteria to a great extent. Washing eyes with clean water 2-3 times a day can reduce the risk of infection. Keep in mind not to use dirty water or unfiltered water.

apply cold compress to eyes
If you feel slight burning, itching or swelling in the eyes, then soak a clean cotton cloth in cold water and keep it on the eyes for 5-10 minutes. This provides relief to the eyes and can reduce swelling. Use only clean cloth every time so that the risk of spreading infection does not increase.

Avoid touching eyes frequently
The habit of rubbing or touching eyes with dirty hands can become the biggest cause of infection. After coming from outside, wash hands thoroughly with soap and only then touch the eyes. If the eyes are itching, instead of rubbing, wash them with clean water or consult a doctor.

Do not share towels and makeup items
Diseases like flu and conjunctivitis can spread rapidly during monsoon. Therefore, do not share your towel, handkerchief, pillow or eye makeup with anyone. This significantly reduces the risk of spreading the infection from one person to another.

Drink enough water and eat nutritious food
Lack of water in the body and weak immunity can also increase eye problems. Drink adequate amount of water throughout the day and include foods rich in vitamin A, C and omega-3 fatty acids like carrots, spinach, oranges and walnuts in your diet. This maintains better eye health and helps in fighting infections.
