New Delhi: Vijay’s much-awaited film witnessed a sharp fall in earnings on its second day after registering a strong opening at the domestic box office. Despite the decline, the film has crossed the ₹60 crore mark in India within two days.

Released in theaters on July 23, Jana Nayagan is being widely promoted as Vijay’s final film before his full-time political journey. However, mixed-to-negative reviews from critics and audiences appear to have affected its performance after the opening-day excitement.

Jana Nayagan Records 50% Drop on Day 2

According to early box office estimates reported by Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan collected ₹42.70 crore net in India on its opening day.

Jana Nayagan Box Office Day 1: Vijay’s Farewell Film Opens At Rs 80.28 Crore Worldwide, Beats Leo And GOAT

The film witnessed a drop of nearly 50.5% on its second day and earned around ₹21.15 crore net from approximately 12,190 shows on Friday.

With this, the film’s two-day India net collection has reached ₹63.85 crore. Its total domestic gross collection is estimated to be around ₹75 crore.

Tamil Version Leads Collections

The Tamil version remained the biggest contributor on the second day, collecting approximately ₹17.95 crore.

The Hindi version earned nearly ₹1.85 crore, while the Telugu version brought in around ₹1.35 crore.

Although the overall numbers remain strong, the steep second-day decline could become a concern for the makers if the film fails to show growth over the weekend.

Fans Celebrate Vijay’s Final Film

Vijay’s fans celebrated the theatrical release on a grand scale across Tamil Nadu, particularly in Chennai.

Special cultural performances were organized outside theaters such as Woodlands and Casino. Fans also arranged laser shows, danced to celebratory music and welcomed the actor’s farewell film with loud cheers and whistles during the first-day-first-show screenings.

Actor Ravi Mohan was also seen joining fans in celebrating Vijay. However, the festive release atmosphere has not fully translated into sustained box office momentum.

Mixed Reviews Affect Box Office Performance

The H. Vinoth directorial opened to a divided response, with several viewers criticizing its lengthy runtime, screenplay and political messaging.

The lukewarm word of mouth appears to have resulted in the significant fall in collections on the second day. The film’s performance on Saturday and Sunday will now determine whether it can regain momentum and post a strong opening weekend total.

About Jana Nayagan

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan revolves around Vetri, played by Vijay, who is serving a prison sentence for an undisclosed crime.

While in prison, Vetri develops a close bond with warden Srikanth and later takes responsibility for his daughter Viji. He encourages her to overcome her fears and pursue her dream of joining the Indian Army.

However, Vetri’s mysterious past returns to haunt him when he comes face-to-face with the dangerous John Himmler, played by Bobby Deol, leading to an intense confrontation.

The film also features Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj and Bobby Deol in important roles.

Jana Nayagan was initially expected to release in January 2026, but its theatrical debut was delayed following certification- issues between the producers and the Central Board of Film Certification.
