Doda (Jammu and Kashmir) [भारत]July 25 (ANI): Doda-Pul Doda Road and Pul Doda-Ghat GMC Road have been temporarily closed due to continuous heavy rains in Doda district. Many connectivity routes have also been blocked.

Dozens of roads closed, people evacuated to safe places

Speaking to ANI, Doda Deputy Commissioner Krishna Lal said that rivers and streams are in spate in the district, so the situation is being monitored regularly. He said that after the water level rose, people living in areas near the river were evacuated to safe places. He further informed that due to incessant rains, 56 internal roads are closed in Doda district, while restoration work is going on.

Lal said, "It is raining throughout the district and the situation is being regularly monitored. Our rivers and drains are also in spate, so all our field staff are monitoring the situation. Yesterday, the river water level had risen, so we evacuated people from areas around Doda to safer places. Hence, the situation is under control."

He further said, "Due to incessant rains around 56 internal roads are closed in Doda district and our restoration work is going on. But as you know, incessant rains are hampering our restoration work."

Jhelum water level rises, dam gates opened

Meanwhile, the water level of Jhelum river has risen while several gates of the Baglihar Hydroelectric Project dam in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district have been opened to control the increased flow following heavy rains.

According to local residents, due to continuous rains since July 23, the water level of Jhelum river has increased by about one foot.

Officials have urged people living in low-lying areas and river banks to remain alert and follow the safety advisories issued by the administration.

Speaking to ANI, Dr Ijaz expressed hope that the weather conditions will improve in the coming days. Referring to the rising water level in Jhelum, he said the rise has been gradual and unless there are heavy rains in the region, there is no cause for immediate concern.

He said, "As far as the situation is concerned, I believe that God willing, it will improve. By the grace of God, things will get better. There is a forecast of sunshine, Inshallah. It is our hope from Almighty God that things will improve. The water is rising, but I don't think it will be much given the current rain pattern. If there are heavy rains, there is a possibility of some problems." (ANI)
