Mbappe scored the first goal for France in the 48th minute by beating goalkeeper Dean Henderson. By this time England had taken a 4-0 lead. After this, in the 66th minute, he again beat Henderson with a left-footed shot from a distance of about 14 yards and left behind Messi’s career record of 21 goals in the World Cup. With Mbappe’s second goal, France made the score 3-4 but the team failed to register victory.
The French team missed a place in the World Cup final for the third consecutive time after losing to Spain in the semi-finals. Mbappe won the Golden Boot by scoring 8 goals in the World Cup held in Qatar four years ago. In the final of that World Cup, France lost to the Argentina team captained by Messi in the penalty shootout.
England scored a flurry of goals in the first half

He completed the second hat-trick of his career for England by scoring his third goal from a penalty in the 87th minute, after scoring in the 37th minute and injury time of the first half. Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa also scored goals for England in the first half, leading the team 4–0 at half time. England maintained their lead in a thrilling second half and achieved their best result in the World Cup since becoming champions in 1966. The sixth goal for England was scored by Jude Bellingham in the eighth minute of injury time of the second half, which was his seventh goal of the tournament.
The match played between France and England was the highest-goal match in the World Cup since Hungary’s 10–1 victory over El Salvador in 1982. Never before had 10 goals been scored in a third-place match.
