West Ham United striker Taty Castellanos has now come up as one of the attacking options being looked at by La Liga club Real Betis, though there are no talks in progress at present.
The London side were relegated on the final day of last season, ending their 14-year run in the Premier League.
Captain Jarrod Bowen has already pledged his future by signing a new contract, but it is understood that several of his team-mates are eager to move on from the London Stadium.
Castellanos is among them, having only joined in January after putting pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract.
The Argentine arrived from Lazio in a €30m transfer and tried to make the fee look justified, finding the net six times in 18 Premier League appearances.
Even so, it was not enough to keep West Ham in the top flight, and the striker now seems keen to stay away from Championship football.
In May, Atalanta were said to be considering an enquiry for the 27-year-old, but two months later he is still a West Ham player.
As per Spanish outlet Fichajes, Castellanos has now ’emerged as an alternative’ attacking target for Real Betis ahead of next season, although no negotiations have yet started.
The La Liga club regard the Argentine as an alternative to Roma’s Artem Dovbyk and FC Cincinnati’s Kevin Denkey, although West Ham’s asking price could become a major hurdle.
Los Verdiblancos would ideally want an initial loan deal with an option to buy, but it is still unclear whether the Hammers would be willing to consider such a proposal.
Italian media have indicated that a return to Serie A remains ‘a pure dream’ because of the financial demands, with West Ham expected to seek a fee that recovers a large part of the €30m they paid in January.
His salary in England could also make any transfer difficult, as very few clubs are likely to be able to match his present wages.
The Argentine, though, has already shown his quality in La Liga during his loan spell at Girona in the 2022/23 campaign, when he scored 13 league goals, a record that may enhance his appeal in Spain.
Still, it is not yet clear where Castellanos’ future will lie, with the striker determined to stay in one of Europe’s top five leagues and with Real Betis yet to decide whether to follow their interest with a formal opening bid.
