The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 supplementary practical exams are set to begin on July 29. The Board has finalized its preparations for these exams and issued specific guidelines. It has been clarified that practical exams will be conducted for students placed in the 'compartment' category under certain conditions. These exams are scheduled to take place from July 29 to August 4, 2026.

Let us look at the guidelines issued by CBSE regarding the Class 12 supplementary practical exams and the instructions provided for students.

**Practical Exams Mandatory for Two Categories of Students**
CBSE has stated that practical exams are mandatory for two categories of students: those in the 'Repeat Practical' (RP) category and those in the 'Repeat Theory and Practical' (RB) category. The 'Repeat Practical' (RP) category includes students placed in the compartment category due to a 'Repeat Practical' requirement in a subject. Meanwhile, the 'Repeat Theory and Practical' (RB) category includes students placed in the compartment category due to a requirement to repeat both theory and practical components in a subject (or subjects).

**Practical Exam Only for 'Repeat Practical' Category**
CBSE has clarified that students in the 'Repeat Practical' (RP) category will only need to appear for the practical exam during the supplementary examination; their previous theory marks will remain valid. Conversely, students in the 'Repeat Theory and Practical' (RB) category must appear for both the practical and theory exams.

**Where Will the Practical Exams Be Held?**
CBSE has clarified the venues for practical exams for regular and private students. Practical exams for regular students will be conducted at their own schools, whereas practical exams for private category students will be held at their designated examination centers. Contact your school or examination center by July 27.

In its guidelines, the CBSE has issued an advisory urging students to contact their respective schools and examination centers by July 27 regarding their practical exams. Students are advised to carry copies of their results, marksheets, and admit cards with them. The guidelines also instruct students to note down the scheduled date and time for their practical exams and to arrive at the venue on time.
