Indian badminton player PV Sindhu has voiced her concerns regarding the scheduling of the ongoing China Open 2026, citing unfair recovery times after her challenging round of 16 match against China's Chen Yufei on July 23.

Sindhu's journey in the tournament ended with a close three-set loss, with scores of 21–16, 20–22, and 18–21. The two-time Olympic medalist had recently made history as the first Indian to win the Japan Open, but her progress was halted in Changzhou after a tightly contested match.

Prior to her defeat, Sindhu had secured a victory against fellow Indian Unnati Hooda in the round of 32, but her tournament concluded against the home favorite, raising issues about scheduling and recovery times.

Sindhu's Remarks on Scheduling Inequities

After her match against Chen Yufei, Sindhu expressed her frustration over the unequal rest periods allotted to players. She took to her official X account to emphasize how the tournament's schedule seemed to favor her opponent.

Sindhu noted that she had only approximately 16 hours to recover between matches, while Chen Yufei had a full day off and over 24 hours of recovery before her next match against Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand. To illustrate her point, she shared a screenshot of Chen's match schedule.

"About 16 hours for me between matches. 24+ hours for my dear friend Chen tomorrow after having a full day off before facing me today," Sindhu tweeted.

She further commented, "Lovely to see recovery being given the importance it deserves. Funny how schedules have a way of taking care of recovery. I only wish they took care of everyone the same way."
