New Delhi: Amid ongoing protests over the NEET paper leaks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that he received recommendations for fast-track courts, which would be brought for consideration during a cabinet meeting on Friday.

Addressing the country in a video message late on Thursday night, the PM added that several measures have been taken in the past two and a half months on the issue of paper leaks and added that accused have been apprehended and are currently languishing in jail. The Prime Minister also said that an examination of the NEET exam was necessitated so that students won’t have to lose a year.

“I am aware that the paper leak issue is not a trivial matter; it is deeply distressing for lakhs of students and their parents. Several measures have been taken over the past two and a half months. The culprits have been apprehended and are currently in jail,” the Prime Minister said.

He added, “Our most critical responsibility was to ensure that the students did not lose a year of their academic lives. Conducting the examinations promptly was essential. The government mobilised all its resources to organise the exam for 22 lakh students in the shortest possible time, and the results were declared just five or six days ago, on July 29. News of successful students celebrating across the country is pouring in. However, we are not the kind of people to simply rest on our laurels”.

“That is why I directed the concerned departments today regarding the establishment of a fast-track court. Working tirelessly, the departments submitted their recommendations to me late this evening. This recommendation for a fast-track court will be discussed in the Cabinet tomorrow. It will be finalized after incorporating suggestions from Cabinet colleagues, and we will endeavor to have it passed in Parliament during the upcoming week—the second week of the session—which begins on Monday,” the PM said further.
