Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, along with the Indian community, organized a cycling event under the banner ‘Cheer 4 India’ to garner support for Indian athletes participating in the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Through this he promoted fitness awareness across the world.

On this occasion, Mandaviya said that fitness is important for every global citizen. He said that the Indian community organized the ‘Cheer 4 India’ initiative to encourage the Indian athletes participating in the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Through this we gave the message that fitness is important for every citizen of the world.

In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the ‘Fit India Movement’ and our community is deeply connected to this cause.”

Mandaviya said, “For the progress of any country, it is important for its citizens to be fit. Only fit citizens make a healthy society and only a healthy society can build a prosperous nation. My appeal is that everyone should unite for the National Fitness Campaign as a collective resolve to build a developed nation.”

Emphasizing the benefits of cycling, the Minister said that it is a powerful solution to environmental pollution, an important means for personal fitness and an effective solution to urban traffic jams.

Mandaviya said, “Through cycling, we want to send a message to the world that let’s work together to save our planet and protect the environment. Through our cycling events organized under ‘Cheer 4 India’, the Indian community has come together to support and cheer on our athletes.”

India’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Periyasamy Kumaran, who was present at the event, while talking to IANS on India’s progress in the field of sports under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said, “The Prime Minister has talked many times about the increasing obesity in India and the need to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

From this the ‘Fit India Movement’ started. This is a slightly shorter version of the Commonwealth Games as fewer sports are included this time. The event to be held in Ahmedabad in 2030 will be its full form. We should be prepared to increase our medals tally as compared to previous performances. I hope that happens. “Certainly, there is a lot of excitement in India that this Commonwealth Games is going to be a great event.”

The Indian team is participating in the Commonwealth Games for the 19th time. India’s journey in the Commonwealth Games, which started in 1930, started in the second edition (1934). A 124-member Indian contingent is participating in the Commonwealth Games 2026 to be held in Glasgow, Scotland. In this, athletes from eight sports and five para-sports will compete for medals. India will begin their campaign with the men’s and women’s lawn bowls events.
