Moradabad. Thakurdwara assembly constituency is always in discussion in UP politics. As the buzz of upcoming assembly elections intensified, the ground zero reporting team of ‘UPUKLive’ reached Faridpur Haji village of Thakurdwara assembly of Moradabad district. When the public mood was measured in the streets of the village, people’s anger against the sitting Samajwadi Party MLA Nawab Jan Khan was clearly visible.
In fact, the villagers of Faridpur Haji allege that the development work in the area has completely come to a standstill for the last 10 years. Whenever the villagers go to the MLA regarding broken roads, waterlogging or other problems, he gets only one rote answer – ‘We do not have a government in the state.’ Angered by this attitude of the MLA, now the traditional and staunch voters of SP are also talking about finding a new option.
Roads in the village are in bad condition, street lights are also switched off
There is a lot of resentment among the youth and elders of the village regarding basic facilities. Local residents Dilshad Hussain and Mohammad Shahbaz said that nothing has happened in the name of development in the village. According to Shahbaz, the MLA had installed 5-6 street lights in the village, half of which are still switched off. The condition of the roads is so bad that there is waterlogging at many places.
Dilshad says that the MLA’s entire attention is limited to the lights only, but they too are not working properly. Dilshad said in clear words, “We are staunch voters of Samajwadi Party, but if the party again makes Nawab Jaan the candidate, then we will be forced to vote for some other party.”
Breach in SP cadre, demand for new face intensifies
The anger among the village people is so deep that even people associated with the party for years are now looking for an alternative to Nawab Jaan Khan. Brajesh Chandra alleges that the MLA does not invest the money from his fund in the development of the village. The development of the entire tehsil has come to a standstill. Brajesh says, “If SP gives ticket to a new face, we will stay with the party, but if Nawab comes to life, we will turn to any good candidate from BJP or BSP.”
At the same time, Hashim of the village says that the situation in the village was the same 30 years ago, it is the same even today. After getting a little work done, leaders disappear for 10 years. Faizan Barkati vented out his anger and said, “The MLA comes to the village on someone’s death, gives mud and leaves. But when we go with our problems, he does not have time to listen.” Faizan believes that the party should give ticket to Mujahid Ali this time.
Dirty water coming from taps, everyone else is angry except one or two supporters.
Khurshid of the village, raising the issue of bad roads and drinking water, said that the water from the tap which the MLA had installed in the village is not fit for drinking till date. There is water on the road and the roads are broken. He warned that if the candidate is not changed then this time their vote will go to BJP. Elderly Shahid also looked hurt by the attitude of the MLA. He says that as soon as elections come, leaders make promises, but later there is no hearing.
However, not everyone in the village seemed angry with the MLA. Mahtab Ali of the village, defending the MLA, said, “The road in front of my house is well constructed. The MLA is doing good work and I have no work with him.” But except a few people like Mahtab, a large section of the village seems to be extremely dissatisfied with the work of the MLA.
Overall, this ground report from Faridpur Haji village of Thakurdwara Assembly shows that local development, roads, water and contact with public representatives are going to be the most important issues for the people in the upcoming elections. Voters will now decide their decision not only by assessing the ideology of political parties but also by assessing the work done on the ground.
