Manchester United are facing renewed backlash from their fanbase after a recent campaign aimed at curbing ticket touting led to thousands of supporters having their accounts suspended and concerns mounting over the fate of their season tickets.

The club has intensified its measures to clamp down on the illegal resale of match tickets, issuing warning emails to supporters whose accounts were flagged during an internal investigation.

Several fans have been notified that their accounts have been suspended, while others have been cautioned that they could lose their season tickets ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season if any breaches are confirmed.

Although many supporters acknowledge the seriousness of ticket touting and agree it must be dealt with, a growing number believe that the club’s enforcement methods have become overly harsh.

Numerous fans argue that dedicated and long-term supporters have been unfairly caught up in the process without being given a fair opportunity to explain their circumstances.

These frustrations have brought together several fan organisations, including the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST), The 1958, The Red Army, numerous official supporters’ clubs, and established fan publications such as Red News and United We Stand.

Collectively, these groups have urged the club to halt its current suspension process and to reassess how such investigations are conducted.

In a joint statement, the organisations emphasised that long-serving supporters should not be treated as suspects without sufficient evidence or a fair chance to defend themselves.

“Long-standing supporters who have followed Manchester United for decades, often across multiple generations of the same family, should never feel they are being treated as suspects without clear evidence, due process or a meaningful opportunity to respond to the allegations made against them,” the groups declared in a joint statement.

“The current approach has fostered a growing perception among supporters of a ‘Ban first and ask questions later’ mentality. That is not how trust is built, nor is it consistent with the fairness that loyal fans should expect from their football club.

“Investigations should determine the facts before penalties are enforced, especially when the potential outcome could mean the loss of a season ticket and decades of relationship with the club.”

Manchester United have also faced criticism for cutting back discounts for senior supporters, a move many believe has made it harder for older fans to afford attending matches.

Additionally, there have been complaints about rising ticket prices that continue to increase the overall cost of attending games for supporters.
