Many electronic items are available in different colors in the market, but white color is most used in indoor and outdoor units of air conditioners.
There are not only design but also many scientific and practical reasons behind this. Companies prefer white color for AC because this color is considered better in many aspects like heat, cost and maintenance.
The outdoor unit of the air conditioner is often installed outside the house in direct sunlight. In such a situation, if its color is dark then it can absorb more heat from the sun’s rays. Whereas white color reflects light and heat more, due to which the effect of heat on the unit is relatively less. This can help in maintaining better efficiency of the AC.
If AC manufacturing companies produce more models of the same color then the production process becomes easier. Using the same color paint, design and material helps control costs. If each model has to be made in different colors, the production cost may increase, which may also affect the price of the product.
White color is considered a neutral color. It easily matches with walls, furniture and other decor of the house. This is why companies choose a color that looks good in most people’s homes.
AC is installed in a place where dust accumulation is common. Dust and small scratches can be easily visible on dark colors like black or dark grey. In comparison, light dust or small marks are less visible on white color, due to which the AC can remain cleaner and look better for a long time.
Do ACs not come in other colours?
It is not that ACs are made only in white colour. Some companies also offer black, gray and other designed ACs. However, due to its utility and consumer preference, white remains the most commonly used color even today. Thus the white color of air conditioners is not just a design choice but a result of many reasons like heat control, cost savings and easy maintenance.
