New Delhi, 23 July 2026: After the three-match ODI series between India and England, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the ODI rankings for batsmen. After the third ODI against England, it was expected across the country that Indian captain Shubman Gill would become the world number-one batsman. Gilley played an innings of 77 runs in the third ODI and scored a total of 188 runs in the three-match series against England. However, despite this brilliant performance, Gill missed out on becoming the world number-1 one-day batsman. Interestingly, he is just one rating point behind top-ranked Daryl Mitchell.

In the latest ICC rankings, Shubhman Gill is at second place with 801 rating points, while the top-ranked New Zealander Daryl Mitchell has 802 points. Gill came very close to the number-one ranking but in the end missed it by a little. After scoring 80 runs in the second one-day match against England, he had to leave the field due to injury; If he had scored a century in that match and played a longer innings, perhaps he would have been the number one batsman in the world today.

Rohit and Virat shine in ICC rankings

Rohit Sharma, who scored 138 runs in the third ODI against England at the historic Lord’s ground on July 19, is in fourth place in the recent rankings. It has 758 rating points. On the other hand, Virat Kohli, who scored two half-centuries during the England series, is at third position. The top four includes three Indian batsmen: Shubhman Gill at second, Virat Kohli at third and Rohit Sharma at fourth.

Joe Root returns to top 10 after 6 years

After remaining unbeaten in each match during the three-match series against India and scoring a total of 249 runs, Joe Root has re-entered the top 10 players of the ODI batting rankings after six years. This is his first position in the top 10 since 2020; In the latest ranking he is at eighth position with 674 points.
