Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has officially completed his move to Inter Miami, though Major League Soccer (MLS) has initiated an investigation into the deal following allegations of tampering.

The 34-year-old Brazilian international, who became a free agent after his contract at Old Trafford ended last season, has signed with the MLS side on a contract that extends through the conclusion of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.

The deal also includes an option to prolong his stay until June 2029, subject to visa clearance.

Casemiro’s discovery rights were previously held by LA Galaxy, which under league regulations would have prevented Inter Miami from entering into negotiations with the player.

Although both clubs reached a settlement that allowed Inter Miami to complete the much-anticipated signing, the league continues to examine the tampering claims.

In an official statement, MLS said, “The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete.”

The statement added, “While Inter Miami CF and the LA Galaxy have reached a settlement for the Discovery Priority to sign Casemiro, the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation.”

Casemiro’s debut date for Inter Miami remains uncertain as he awaits the approval of his visa documentation.

The veteran midfielder arrives with an illustrious record that includes five UEFA Champions League titles, in addition to FA Cup and League Cup honours earned during his time in England.

The Brazilian star will now join forces with Argentina’s Lionel Messi at the Florida-based club.

Speaking to Inter Miami’s official website, Casemiro said, “What motivates me the most – and I think this is true for every player – is winning and continuing to grow. The project the club presented to me, along with the effort everyone made to bring me here, means a lot to me.”

He continued, “I’m incredibly grateful and I can’t wait to get started so I can repay that trust—not only during the 90 minutes on matchday, but every day in training as well.”

“All I can say is thank you, and I’ll give everything I have to return the affection and confidence the club has shown me.”

Casemiro, who made 91 appearances for Brazil — including five during the 2026 World Cup — brings a wealth of international experience to Miami following his four-year spell with Manchester United.

Co-owner David Beckham expressed his delight, saying, “I’m very proud to welcome Casemiro and his family to Inter Miami. He is a person and a player that I have admired for a long time.”
