On Wednesday, the Trophy Tour for the 135th Durand Cup concluded its journey in Kolkata, marking the end of its travels through all five host cities before the tournament kicks off on July 25.

The opening match will feature the much-anticipated Kolkata Derby, where Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face East Bengal FC.

State Minister Indranil Khan emphasized the region's strong affinity for football, noting that attention has shifted from international teams to the upcoming Durand Cup. He expressed appreciation to the Indian Army and the Government of India for selecting Kolkata and West Bengal as prominent hosts, which he believes is a crucial move for the advancement of Indian football.

"Football is the most beloved sport in Bengal. While many supported teams like Argentina, Brazil, Spain, and Portugal during the World Cup, the spotlight is now on Indian football and the Durand Cup, our largest football event. We are thankful to the Indian Army and the Government of India for their role in promoting this sport," Khan stated.

"The Durand Cup trophy was unveiled by the President. The tournament kicks off on July 25, with matches scheduled at various venues. The final is set for August 23," announced Maj Gen Dinesh Kumar Singh.

This year's tournament will feature 24 teams divided into six groups, taking place from July 25 to August 23. It will showcase India's top clubs, Services teams, and emerging football institutions, along with international participation, creating a month-long football celebration.

The matches will be held in Kolkata, Ranchi, Imphal, Shillong, and Guwahati, reflecting the tournament's growing national presence while remaining deeply connected to the football-rich regions of eastern and northeastern India.

Kolkata, which has been the home of the Durand Cup since 2019, will host Groups A and B, the opening match, two quarter-finals, the first semi-final, and the final.
