The Commonwealth Games 2026 will start from July 23. This year the competition will be held in Glasgow, Scotland. The Commonwealth Games, comprising 21 sports events, were to be held in Victoria, Australia, but due to rising costs, they decided to abandon the host. As a result, the Games are held in Glasgow, with only 10 major sports and a total of 215 medal events. The Commonwealth Games 2026 will begin on July 23 and end on August 2. Around 126 Indian athletes are participating in the Commonwealth Games this year.

India has sent 77 men and 48 women athletes (including para-sports) to the Games. This is the 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games which started in 1930. Out of the 22 editions held so far, only four editions (1930, 1950, 1962 and 1986) did not feature an Indian team.

When and where will India’s matches be played?

This time, the Commonwealth Games are being held in Glasgow, Scotland, where the competitions will be held at different times. Fans in India can watch the Commonwealth Games on Sony Sports Network channel. While their live telecast will be free on DD Sports channel through DD Free Dish. The matches will be streamed live online on the Sony Live app. The opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games will be held on July 23, starting at 10:30 pm IST, with Olympic medalists Mirabai Chanu and Lovelina Borhagen as the flag bearers for the Indian team.

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be the center of attraction at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, where he will be seen competing in his events on July 30. Boxing will also feature Preeti Pawar and Jasmine Lamboria. Fans are also eagerly waiting for Mirabai Chanu’s performance in weightlifting.
