Actor Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that Marvel Studios is developing another installment in the Deadpool franchise, with the actor set to reprise his role as the wisecracking antihero once again. Speaking at Fanatics Fest 2026 in New York, Reynolds teased that the upcoming film could draw from lesser-known corners of the character’s comic history, following the record-breaking success of 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
Ryan Reynolds On Returning As Wade Wilson In New Deadpool FilmRyan Reynolds shared the update during a panel appearance at Fanatics Fest 2026 in New York over the weekend. Speaking onstage, he hinted that the new project could draw inspiration from lesser-explored corners of the character’s comic book history. “There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies. I think a few deep cuts are missing from some of the comics,” he said.
He went on to credit two influential Deadpool comic writers for shaping his appreciation of the character, adding, “There’s certainly some stuff that, you know, I love that Fabian Nicieza wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan, who was a friend, was an incredible comic writer.”
Confirming that another film is indeed moving forward, Reynolds said, “There’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great.”
According to reports, the project remains in its early development phase, with no writer or director currently attached. Marvel Studios has not issued an official comment regarding the film, and no further details, including a potential release timeline, have been revealed.
Building On Deadpool & Wolverine’s SuccessThis announcement comes on the back of the massive worldwide success of Deadpool & Wolverine (featuring Reynolds as Wade Wilson alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in yet another previous X-Men series), which not only became the world’s all-time highest-grossing R-rated movie, but fetched a worldwide gross of approximately $1.3 billion. All three Deadpool films are estimated to have grossed almost $3 billion at the world’s box office.
