WI vs NZ 5th ODI: West Indies performed brilliantly and defeated New Zealand by 2 wickets in the fifth ODI. The Caribbean team achieved the target of 269 runs set by New Zealand at the Kensington Oval by losing 8 wickets in 47.3 overs. West Indies got off to a good start in their chase, with Akeem Auguste and Justin Greaves adding 57 runs for the first wicket.
Greaves scored 22 runs in 15 balls with the help of 2 fours and a six. Whereas, Auguste scored 34 runs in 24 balls. Casey Carthy failed to take advantage of the good start and was out after scoring 20 runs. Shai Hope hit some powerful shots and became the victim of Jayden Lennox after scoring 39 runs in 52 balls.
Sherfane Rutherford and Shimron Hetmyer took charge
Sherfane Rutherford and Shimron Hetmyer took charge of West Indies’ innings, which was looking shaky after losing 4 wickets at the score of 123. Both added 95 runs in 90 balls for the fifth wicket. Facing 64 balls, Rutherford scored 61 runs with the help of 2 fours and 5 sixes. At the same time, Hetmyer remained unbeaten after scoring 69 runs in 64 balls and returned after leading the team to victory.
Hetmyer hit 2 fours and 4 sixes in this innings. In bowling, Jacob Duffy and Lennox took three wickets each for New Zealand. Earlier, New Zealand scored 268 runs losing 9 wickets in 50 overs. The team did not have a good start and Henry Nicholls was out after scoring just 10 runs.

However, after this Will Young and Nick Kelly took charge and added 86 runs for the second wicket. Young scored 56 runs in 63 balls. He hit 6 fours and one six in his innings. Whereas, Kelly faced 80 balls and scored 64 runs. Mark Chapman could score only 11 runs.
Tom Latham appeared in good form and contributed 69 runs in 71 balls with the help of 6 fours and a six. In bowling, 19-year-old bowlers Vital Laws and Alzarri Joseph took two wickets each for West Indies. However, despite the defeat in the fifth ODI, New Zealand was successful in winning the series 3-2.
