England batter Jacob Bethell enjoyed a fine return to form with the bat after scoring 91 in the final ODI versus India on Sunday. The left-handed batter hasn’t been at his best with the bat after a dismal season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026. The batter had come into the tournament after playing a blazing knock of 105 in the T20 World Cup semis against India at the Wankhede Stadium.

Speaking to the Super Over podcast, the 22-year-old recalled his experiences of playing with Virat Kohli in the league. The batter said, “I came out to bat with Virat and the entire stadium was chanting his name. It felt like they were on top. Luckily, we were able to score some runs. I remember hitting my second ball for four runs. Inever heard such loud noise.”

The youngster also credited the Indian cricket star for helping him. The English southpaw said that the 37-year-old talks less at the crease while batting and encourages good shots. In the 2026 season, the batter replaced Phil Salt after his English teammate was injured. After a poor run of scores, the management replaced him with Venkatesh Iyer at the top of the order for the rest of the season.

Further praising the Indian cricket star, the young batting sensation said, “Away from cricket and off the field, he’s actually a very chilled individual. He is great to talk to and spend time with. But it is his ability to then flip into that competitive nature.”

Jacob Bethell wants to play Suryakumar Yadav’s favourite shot

The young batting star also said that he wants to copy Suryakumar Yadav’s famous scoop shot. “I want to play Surya’s pick-up scoop shot. I can play the shot over square leg if someone is bowling to me on off and middle. I would just put my head down and hit a six.”

While Virat won the title with RCB for a second year in a row, SKY didn’t have a great time with the bat. He scored just 270 runs from 13 games for Mumbai Indians. He also lost his captaincy and spot in the Indian T20I side.
