New Delhi: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike over allegations of rigging and paper leak in the country’s biggest medical entrance examination ‘NEET’ entered its 24th day on Tuesday. On Monday, a sudden change was seen in the stance of Wangchuk, who has been on a continuous fast since June 28. Amidst speculations that he would end his fast by noon, by evening he announced to continue his hunger strike with two new conditions.
Two new conditions emerged
Earlier, there was a possibility of ending the fast after the ‘Sansad Chalo March’ of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). However, Wangchuk changed his decision in protest against the alleged crackdown by Delhi Police on the protesting youth. In a letter issued from Safdarjung Hospital, he made it clear that he would not consume food until at least one of his two conditions was fulfilled.
- The youth delegation of CJP should be allowed to meet the MPs inside the Parliament House.
- Or they should be provided an opportunity to meet these young leaders in the hospital itself.
Did not demand resignation of Education Minister
Let us tell you that this time Wangchuk has not demanded the direct resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, but has only expressed hope that the government will fix the accountability of the Education Minister. His stance is being seen as a change in strategy and softness.
Will be admitted to Medanta Hospital
Meanwhile, Delhi High Court has passed an important order regarding the health and better treatment of Sonam Wangchuk. A bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia, while hearing the petition of Wangchuk’s wife Geetanjali Angmo, directed to transfer him from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.
Instructions given to the medical team
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the court that the Central Government has no objection to shifting Medanta. The High Court has directed the Director of Medanta Hospital to constitute a dedicated medical team of experts. Along with this, the court has made it clear that the patient will have to follow the treatment protocols of the doctors and his wife Geetanjali will have complete freedom to meet him at any time.
