Fabrizio Romano has issued a decisive update concerning Manchester United’s strategy for the left wing position, naming Iliman Ndiaye, Crysencio Summerville, and Marcus Rashford among the key figures involved.

The Red Devils entered the summer transfer window with the intention of recruiting a new backup goalkeeper, three central midfielders, and a high-profile left winger.

Out of these five targets, three have already been secured through the signings of Karl Darlow, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans.

Manchester United continue to pursue another midfielder, but their search for a left winger has become complicated after Marcus Rashford’s proposed transfer to Barcelona collapsed.

The LaLiga champions opted not to trigger their €30 million (approximately £26 million) purchase option, while the £40 million clause in Rashford’s Manchester United contract—available to all clubs except Liverpool and Manchester City—expired on July 15.

Consequently, there is growing belief within Old Trafford that the club may abandon plans to recruit a new winger and instead keep Rashford. According to transfer expert Romano, the club has decided to include Rashford in pre-season training and friendly matches.

Reports also suggest Rashford is eager to work under Michael Carrick, and the feeling is said to be mutual.

Romano emphasised that Manchester United continue to admire West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville and Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye.

However, the situation remains straightforward — if Rashford stays, no new winger will be brought in. At present, that seems to be the most probable scenario.

“Crysencio Summerville, at this moment, completely cold,” Romano explained on YouTube when discussing Manchester United’s stance. “Roma are in discussions to sign him and have already submitted three bids to Aston Villa.

“So Roma are pushing hard, while Manchester United remain uninterested. Why? Because as long as Marcus Rashford is at the club, they’re maintaining their current attacking structure.

“If Rashford leaves, I’ll keep you updated, and in that case, there would be an opening at Manchester United for another winger.

“But at the same time, Manchester United are not ruling out Rashford staying. He will begin pre-season with the team and is genuinely excited about collaborating with Michael Carrick — and the feeling is mutual.”

Addressing Ndiaye’s situation, Romano noted that Rashford’s continued presence complicates any potential deal and that the financial demands for the Senegalese forward also pose a challenge.

“Another player admired by Manchester United is Iliman Ndiaye at Everton,” Romano continued.

“But the club are not advancing in talks because of the Rashford situation.

“For Ndiaye, several clubs have shown interest. Manchester United, foreign clubs, and a few weeks ago, Aston Villa also held discussions.

“However, Ndiaye would command a significant fee — he’s a very important player for Everton, a truly crucial member of their squad.”
