London: On July 20, a Russian warship named Neustrashimy reportedly carried out a live-fire weapons drill in international waters, situated about 40 nautical miles south of Plymouth, according to the UK's Defence Ministry. The ministry indicated that the British Navy closely monitored the warship during its live exercises. They stated, "A Russian naval vessel shadowed by the Royal Navy conducted a live-fire weapons exercise in international waters approximately 40 nautical miles south of Plymouth yesterday." The Royal Navy has been tracking the vessel's movements and is prepared to ensure the security of the UK, the ministry added. The Russian ship had notified HMS Tyne of its plans to engage in gunnery activities prior to the exercise.

In a related event last month, a Russian frigate allegedly discharged warning shots near a UK-registered yacht in the English Channel. This incident reportedly occurred around 11:40 AM BST on June 16, between the Isle of Wight and Normandy, as reported by BBC. The frigate involved was identified as Admiral Grigorovich, which fired warning shots towards the British yacht from a distance of approximately 500 yards. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or damages to the yacht, prompting British authorities to initiate a thorough investigation. Additionally, in June, the Royal Navy intercepted a Russian oil tanker, SMYRTOS, as it attempted to navigate through the English Channel. The vessel was boarded by Royal Marine Commandos and specialized law enforcement officers from the National Crime Agency, as confirmed by Britain's Ministry of Defence. The then British Prime Minister Keir Starmer indicated that the interception was carried out under his directives.
