Actor Pankaj Tripathi has revealed that he chose not to charge a fee for his upcoming film ' Ohh My Dog ', saying he wanted to support filmmaker Amit Rai and the project's heartfelt story. The actor explained that independent films often rely not only on financial backing but also on the commitment of actors who believe in the subject.

Tripathi said his association with producer Ajay Rai and director Amit Rai goes back many years. Their long-standing friendship played an important role in his decision to be part of the film without taking remuneration.

Speaking to Mid Day about his choice, he said, “Ajay Rai, the producer, and Amit Rai are old friends of mine. Commercial films are made with the support of money, but for independent and small films where the story is important, who will support them if not actors like us?” His remarks have been appreciated by fans, with many praising the actor for standing behind meaningful cinema.

Story and Bihar setting immediately appealed to the actor

'Ohh My Dog' tells the emotional story of a young girl who develops a special bond with a stray dog. Tripathi revealed that he was deeply moved when Amit Rai narrated the script to him. The film's emotional core immediately resonated with him. Another reason the project became special was its setting. Since the story unfolds in Bihar, Tripathi felt a personal connection with the film because it is his home state. The actor said he was happy to be part of a film that not only explored an emotional relationship but also showcased the culture and backdrop of Bihar on screen.

Pankaj Tripathi stayed longer than planned

Recalling the shoot, Pankaj Tripathi shared that the original schedule was much shorter than the time he eventually spent on the project. Instead of limiting himself to the planned number of shooting days, he voluntarily extended his stay to help the team.

He also reached out to friends in Bihar and encouraged them to support the production during filming. Sharing the experience, he said, “The story is set in Bihar. Amit asked me to shoot for four days, and I told him I would come for six. I also called my friends in Bihar and we supported the film in every way. Eventually, I stayed for seven days.” In 'Ohh My Dog', Pankaj Tripathi essays the role of a teacher. The film is led by child actor Maahi Rai, while Pawan Malhotra and Rajesh Sharma play important supporting characters. Tripathi believes the focus of the story rightly belongs to the young girl and the stray dog, whose relationship forms the emotional heart of the narrative. According to him, the rest of the cast exists to strengthen that central story rather than overshadow it. He said, “The main story is about a dog and a child. We are all in supporting roles, but in reality, we are supporting the film itself.”

Directed by Amit Rai, 'Ohh My Dog' is scheduled to release in theatres on July 31.
