Jammu Kashmir Yatra News: Amarnath Yatra has been postponed after torrential rains in Jammu and Kashmir and warning from the Meteorological Department. The administration has not allowed any passenger vehicle to proceed from Jammu, Udhampur and Ramban towards Srinagar due to security reasons.
Due to this, a large number of devotees are staying in the base camps and accommodation centers of Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Ramban and Banihal. Security arrangements have been tightened and passengers have been appealed to stay at safe places till the weather becomes normal.
Travel postponed until weather improves
Similarly, the Yatra of Mata Vaishno Devi also remained postponed for the second consecutive day. At Katra Base Camp, the police is informing the devotees about stopping the Yatra through loudspeaker. The administration has clarified that until the weather improves and the route is declared completely safe, permission will not be given to go towards the building.
The Yatra to Shiv Khodi Dham located in Reasi district has also been stopped due to continuous rain and bad weather. Shri Shiv Khodi Shrine Board has appealed to the devotees to postpone their journey till further notice. The board has said that the safety of passengers is its first priority. The decision to resume the journey will be taken only after the weather becomes favourable.
Situation serious in Jammu and Kashmir due to rain and flood
Continuous torrential rains in Jammu and Kashmir since Sunday have made the situation difficult. In many areas, incidents like cloud bursts, landslides and sudden floods have increased the problems of the people. Seven people have died in the flash flood in Surankote area of Poonch district, while many people are still reported missing.
Teams of Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and SDRF are continuously carrying out operations for relief and rescue operations.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held a high-level meeting in view of the seriousness of the situation. He directed all the districts to keep the control room active 24 hours, speed up the relief work and provide timely assistance to the affected people.
Meteorological Department issued alert
The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains may continue in many parts of the state between July 19 and 24. The administration has appealed to the devotees and travelers to get official information to weather and route before setting out on the journey, so that any untoward incident can be avoided.
