Blackpink fans get ready as Lisa's story is coming to the big screen soon! The singer's first feature-length solo documentary titled Always Lalisa has been officially selected for the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), being held from September 10 to the 20th. Always Lalisa is being directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sue Kim and was first announced by Sony Music Vision in 2025. It will be part of TIFF's Gala Presentations alongside the features A Talent for Murder, All About Corinne, Atonement and Babies. The documentary is 97 minutes long. The premiere date is yet to be announced.

The social media handle for TIFF revealed its Special and Gala presentation lineup for its upcoming edition, which includes Always Lalisa. The synopsis for Always Lalisa states, "K-pop-turned-global superstar Lisa stars in this intimate and transformative documentary tracing her journey from childhood ambition through Blackpink stardom into the artist she is today.

 

The one-and-a-half-hour documentary will explore the singer's journey on her debut solo album Alter Ego, her historic performance at Coachella and her foray into acting with Mike White's  Season 3 for HBO last year. She is also filming a few more acting projects for Netflix. Always Lalisa will focus on the singer's return to Thailand to spend time with family and friends. The documentary will be in English, Thai and Korean, and the singer's famous bandmates Jennie, Rose and Jisoo are likely to make an appearance as well.

 

Director Kim followed  over the course of a year to put together the documentary. She had earlier directed A24’s The Last of the Sea Women, which also had a TIFF premiere in 2024. Kim is also an executive producer on Apple TV+’s K-Pop Idols, and her documentary The Speed Cubers was shortlisted for an Oscar.

Other Special Presentations include Peter Farrelly's I Play Rocky, a drama about the making of Sylvester Stallone’s 1976 film Rocky, and Chris Rock's Misty Green with the comedian starring and directing Rosalind Eleazar, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace and Anthony Anderson. Films of acclaimed directors such as Danny Boyle, Pedro Almodóvar, Cristian Mungiu, Andrew Haigh, Mike Leigh, Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, and Hirokazu Kore-eda will also be screened. Amongst Indian titles, Ritchie Mehta's Phoolan on the infamous life of Phoolan Devi will also be having a world premiere. It is slated to release later on Amazon Prime Video.
