Despite being on the losing side in the 3-match ODI series against England, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli brought some cheer to the Indian camp by finishing their series with the bat on a high. The senior batters fired from the top in the series and proved why they are such an integral part of the Indian team.

India visited the United Kingdom and lost the T20I and 50-over series, but matched up better in the shorter 50-over game. The last one-day match at Lord's was a huge shootout, and despite fighting a tough battle, India went down by 27 runs.

Rohit, who was excellent during the run chase, scored a superb 138 off 110 balls, his 34th century in ODIs. Virat also contributed a handy 74 off 60 balls to keep the Indian team in the contest, but this proved inadequate as England won the series.

As the England tour has came to an end, Indian fans will have to wait two long months before Rohit and Virat return to the national colours.

India's next overseas tours are three T20Is vs. Zimbabwe and a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka, but both Rohit and Virat have announced their retirement from T20 Internationals and Test matches.

Their upcoming game for India is a three-match one-day international series against the West Indies at home. The series that commences on 27th September has its matches scheduled to be played in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and New Chandigarh.

While both are now former stars in two international formats, they are both still key components of India's ODI plans. Their experience and composure should serve the team well as they enter a barrage of white-ball fixtures.

Following the Windies series, India will face West Indies in a series of five T20Is, after which they will head on to a multi-format tour to New Zealand comprising two Tests, five ODIs and five T20Is. Rohit and Virat might join the squad for the ODIs on that tour as the team looks ahead to upcoming ICC events.

At least for the moment, though, all eyes will be on the home series between India and the Caribbean, when we will see two of the country's best-ever run-machines thumping balls once more.
