With the World Cup now concluded, Roma are preparing for strong interest in Manu Koné, with Manchester United emerging as the front-runner for his signature. According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the club has already begun outlining potential successors in anticipation of serious bids.
Gian Piero Gasperini recently acknowledged that the club may need to sell a key player due to financial considerations, adding that the transfer deadline has been extended by one month to July 31. The Giallorossi would ideally look to profit from the sale of Matias Soulé, but offers for him have been underwhelming so far. Soulé is understood to have turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
Roma have placed a valuation of €55 to €60 million on Koné. Such a deal would represent a substantial ‘plusvalenza’ for the club, as the player’s book value currently stands at €12 million. Manchester United are monitoring the midfielder closely, alongside Eduardo Camavinga and Alex Scott, while Chelsea have also expressed interest. Roma, in turn, are eyeing several players connected to BlueCo’s network as potential reinforcements.
The capital side is keeping a close watch on Frank Kessié and Khephren Thuram, particularly after Juventus made a late move for Zeki Celik. Celik himself could be sold for around €40 million. Additionally, Roma have listed Celtic’s Arne Engels, valued between €20 and €25 million, and Botafogo’s Danilo Santos, who featured in Brazil’s World Cup squad and is estimated to cost around €30 to €35 million.
While Gasperini initially insisted on retaining all key players, he has since softened his stance, leaving open the possibility that the French midfielder could be the one sacrificed. Kessié is viewed as a reliable short-term option, though Roma’s strict wage structure presents a potential obstacle. Ultimately, the club aims to secure a powerful, defensively solid midfielder to complement their existing options in the centre of the park.
