In a recent update, Delhi Police has issued traffic advisories for those planning to explore central Delhi today. You may want to rethink your travel schedule if you wish to explore the iconic attractions in Delhi, including India Gate, Connaught Place, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Janpath. The special traffic advisory ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament and a proposed protest march warns commuters and travellers of heavy congestion and restrictions around the Parliament complex.
What tourists should know
Tourists, office-goers, airport-bound passengers, and those travelling through New Delhi are advised to leave early. It is suggested to use Delhi Metro wherever possible and avoid the affected roads. The advisory comes as security has been significantly tightened across the national capital.
Delhi Police took to X and shared a special traffic advisory and wrote:
“Special traffic arrangements will be in place during the Monsoon Session of Parliament 2026, commencing from 20.07.2026 in the jurisdiction of New Delhi Range.
Heavy vehicular movement and traffic restrictions are expected in and around the Parliament area.
📍ADVISORY
•Plan your journey in advance and allow extra travel time.
•Avoid the affected roads and junctions during peak hours.
📍Stay updated through Delhi Traffic Police channels.”
Why is Delhi witnessing traffic restrictions?
Authorities are preparing for a proposed protest march towards Parliament, leading to additional barricading, vehicle checks, and traffic diversions. According to Delhi Police, no permission has been granted for the proposed procession by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) till Parliament.
Five Delhi Metro stations closed until further notice
In a major update for travellers, the DMRC has temporarily closed five key Metro stations on the directions of security agencies.
Meanwhile metro stations will remain affected which are:
Rajiv Chowk
Patel Chowk
Janpath
Central Secretariat
Seva Teerth (formerly Udyog Bhawan)
As per the official announcement, these stations will remain closed until further instructions. However, interchange facilities at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat will continue to operate, allowing passengers to switch Metro lines without exiting the stations.
