Lucknow. In today’s modern era, where medical science has made immense progress, on the other hand a very serious and silent health crisis is spreading among the Indian youth. This is a crisis – infertility i.e. increasing risk of infertility. According to a special health report by TV9 Hindi, fertility problems have increased to record levels in both Indian men and women in the last few years. Medical experts and IVF specialists clearly believe that it is not any genetic or congenital disease but the daily bad lifestyle of the youth that is most responsible for this danger. Some common habits done unknowingly are disturbing the hormonal balance of our body, which ultimately turns out to be a major hindrance in the happiness of becoming parents. According to experts, the 5 worst habits that increase the risk of infertility: 1. Excessive mental stress and anxiety: Today’s youth are living under constant stress due to inability to maintain a balance between corporate life and personal life. According to experts, when the body remains under stress for a long time, the level of stress hormone called ‘Cortisol’ increases. This hormone badly affects the natural secretion of essential reproductive hormones like testosterone in men and estrogen and progesterone in women, due to which fertility starts decreasing. 2. Consumption of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs (Smoking & Alcohol): The increasing trend of social drinking and smoking among the youth is proving to be like poison for the reproductive organs. Nicotine and other harmful chemicals present in tobacco rapidly reduce sperm count and its motility in men. At the same time, in women, it spoils the quality of eggs, due to which there is great difficulty in conceiving. 3. Processed Food and Unhealthy Diet (Junk Food & Obesity): Continuous consumption of junk food, excessive oily, canned food and things made from refined flour leads to nutritional deficiency in the body. Due to this, obesity increases rapidly. Obesity in women directly gives rise to diseases like PCOD and PCOS, which are the main causes of irregular periods and infertility. 4. Staying awake till late night and incomplete sleep (Poor Sleep Cycle): Staying awake all night due to laptop, mobile screen and OTT has become the identity of today’s youth. According to doctors, when we are in deep sleep at night, our body regulates hormones and repairs tissues. Due to disturbed sleep cycle, the body’s natural body clock (Circadian Rhythm) gets destroyed, which has a direct impact on the fertility cycles. 5. Lack of physical activity (Sedentary Lifestyle): Working in the office sitting continuously for 8 to 10 hours and not doing any physical exercise, yoga or walking throughout the day is also a big reason. Due to inactive lifestyle, blood circulation in the pelvic area (the area around the reproductive organs) does not occur properly, which hinders aggressive sperm production in men and the process of ovulation in women. Doctors’ advice: Make these important changes in lifestyle in time. Fertility experts say that the only and most accessible way to avoid this serious danger is for the youth to immediately improve their habits. Include at least 30 to 45 minutes of exercise or yoga in your daily routine. Eat pure, sattvic, green leafy vegetables and antioxidant-rich home-cooked meals. Stay away from sugar and flour completely. If there is a problem in conceiving naturally after one year of marriage, then without any social hesitation or shame, both the husband and wife should visit a qualified gynecologist or fertility specialist together and get the necessary medical assessment (like semen analysis and ovarian reserve test) done, because infertility is not only a woman-centric problem.
