Who is at risk?
According to this study, this problem is not limited to one class of people but many are at risk of it. Dyslipidemia is more common in urban men and women. Apart from this, more cases of this have been found in central India. However, the Northeast area has the least number of cases. Note, even in places where cases are few, 8 out of 10 people are found to suffer from it. It is also more common in people with medical problems like pre-diabetes, diabetes, obesity.
Symptoms do not appear
The most alarming aspect of dyslipidemia is that there are no symptoms at first. The study’s senior author and president of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Dr. V. Mohan said that high cholesterol and triglycerides are not diagnosed early. These numbers, which appear on test reports, gradually cause plaque to build up in the arteries, which can then rupture or cut off blood flow to the brain.
It causes a decrease in good cholesterol
Data from 23,665 people were analyzed for the study, after which 66.8% were found to be deficient in good cholesterol. Good cholesterol helps reduce body fat. In this case, its deficiency can increase the amount of fat in the body. Along with this, the study also found that 49.4% of the subjects had elevated levels of bad cholesterol and 29.5% of the subjects had elevated levels of triglycerides. Studies have found that as a person’s body mass index worsens, the risk of this disease increases exponentially.
