Joe Root scripted a new world record on July 19. With his third successive fifty against India at Lord’s, he took his runs tally to 249, the most by any batter in the world without losing his wicket in a bilateral assignment. He also became the first England batter to amass six consecutive fifty-plus scores in the fifty-over format, with his 40-ball half-century in the ENG vs IND 2026 3rd ODI at the Home of Cricket.

He is the 13th batter in the world with six or more 50-plus scores on the trot. Sachin Tendulkar, whose record for most runs in Test cricket is on the line as Root closes the gap, managed five consecutive 50-plus scores in 1994.

On 41 occasions, the batters have struck five or more consecutive 50-plus scores in ODIs, including Root’s tally in 2016. A total of 36 batters have recorded this milestone, with Virat Kohli completing it five times.
