Delhi Capitals and Bengal wicket-keeper batter Abishek Porel has found himself in yet another round of the law after the Calcutta High Court has instructed the police to pursue more steps in a criminal complaint against him.

Porel was accused by a woman of having physical relations with her on the promise of marriage. The cricketer refuted the allegations after a complaint was filed at Mogra Police Station in Hooghly district.

About the last court order, the police have been instructed to follow up on the investigation, and to remand the accused if needed, as well as to seize the electronic gadgets relevant to the case.

The case is under investigation at Mogra Police Station, FIR no. 346/2026, which encompasses various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with section(s) of the Information Technology Act. The next hearing has been scheduled for the 11th of August.

The High Court of Calcutta concluded that further investigation is necessary in this matter.

"The petitioner submits that although a criminal prosecution has been initiated, being Mogra Police Station Case No. 346 of 2026 under Sections 64(1), 66, 69, 74, 75(2), 79, 115(2), 117(2), 124, 127(2), 109(1), 308(2), 351(2), 351(3), 316(2), 318(3), 61(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, read with Sections 66E and 72 of the Information Technology Act, against Respondent Nos. 6 and 7, further investigative steps are required."

The court also ordered the police to confiscate computer equipment likely to have private material associated with the complainant.

"Further steps are required to be taken by the concerned police authorities to seize electronic devices lying with the accused persons containing obscene photographs of the petitioner in order to protect dignity and privacy of the petitioner."

It is stated in the complaint that the woman and Porel were dating for about 3 years. She says that they had a physical relationship and that Porel abandoned her because he was supposed to marry her.

Once the complaint was lodged, an officer from the Police confirmed the investigation had been opened.

"We have received a complaint and started an investigation," a police official told PTI.

Porel has rejected all charges and has said that he will comment on them once the investigation has matured.

"I am playing well now, so various things are coming up," Porel was quoted as saying by PTI.

"I will talk about this when the police investigate. I have not spoken to the police yet," he added.

The investigation is still in progress. Moreover, no court has approved Porel's guilt. All the steps taken will depend on the result of the results in the court.
