How much does it cost to capture the perfect wedding moment on screen? Insiders say, 14-15 hours of footage and almost 10-15 per cent of the total wedding budget . While you do the math, do not forget the multiple rehearsals and retakes for that gorgeous, almost-perfect shot. Because brides demand nothing but the best captured on their special day. No blemishes, no missing a step, no stumbling – even the smiles and the emotions need to be cinematic. And this for a 9:16 aspect ratio (read: Insta Reels).
However, many argue that while couples go the extra mile to document every second of their shaadi, there is a growing faction that prefers to keep it completely organic. “We sometimes have to sit down with the bride-to-be and explain that this is their moment, don’t ruin it by wanting to make it perfect. Enjoy and soak it all in,” reveals a well-known luxury wedding photography team.
Wedding photography experts claim that it takes months of recce and discussion to document every emotion and make it even more special in pictures and videos. And even when inspirations are heavily drawn from celebrity weddings, the saat phere, the vidaai, and the exchanging of the varmala remain so distinct and captivating that they naturally take the crowd’s breath away.
When we caught up with Himanshu Patel , the luxury wedding photographer behind Epic Stories who recently documented Anshula Kapoor and Rohan Thakkar’s big day, we asked about the brief that went into creating their stunning visuals. “The brief was simple. Anshula confessed she didn’t have any specific aesthetic in mind. She wanted us to focus on the family, her brother and sisters. That sealed the deal. The camera stopped being a factor in the room. The moments were organic and beautiful.”
For Patel, the secret to a timeless wedding album doesn’t lie in choreographing the day, but in understanding the couple’s journey. “The most important thing we ask is: ‘What is your story? How did you meet?’ Because long after your pheras are done, you won’t remember what you ate or how the decor looked. But you will remember how you felt at that exact moment when you saw the bride walking down the aisle with her dad next to her. Or the moment when you catch your partner’s eye — that vulnerability is the magic. It has nothing to do with grandeur. It is pure emotion.”
Remember this: Your Instagram story may vanish in 24 hours, but your authentic wedding moments are memories that will only make that bond stronger over the years.
