The 72nd National Film Awards were announced on Saturday evening and films from the South Indian film industry including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada films won several major awards across different categories. Let’s look at the films that won in the Best Film categories in their respective sections.

Telugu cinemaThe Telugu film ‘ Committee Kurrollu ’ won the Best Telugu Film award at the 72nd National Film Awards.

The coming-of-age rural drama received praise for its simple storytelling, strong friendship, nostalgic moments, and realistic portrayal of village life. Directed by Yadhu Vamsi, 'Committee Kurrollu', it stars Sandeep Saroj, Yaswanth Pendyala, Eshwar Rachiraju, Trinadh Varma, Prasad Behara, Manikanta Parasu, Sai Kumar, and Goparaju Ramana. The film is backed by actor-producer Niharika Konidela’s production banner.

Multiple stars have shared their congratulations with the winners, Allu Arjun took to his X handle and wrote, “Congratulations to all the winners of the 72nd National Film Awards.” He also added, “Spl Congratulations to my cousin @IamNiharikaK and the #CommitteeKurrollu team on winning Best Telugu Film, and to P. Ravi Kumar for Best Makeup.”

Tamil filmIn Tamil cinema, ‘ Raayan ’ won the Best Tamil Film award. Directed by and starring Dhanush, the neo-noir revenge drama was honoured for its powerful story and engaging narration.

Malayalam categoryMalayalam film ‘ Feminichi Fathima ’, directed by Fasil Muhammed, won the Best Feature Film in Malayalam category. The film tells the story of a devoted homemaker, who challenges societal norms to assert her identity and independence.

Kannada filmKannada film ‘Mithya’ emerged as one of the biggest winners at the awards. Directed by debutant Sumanth Bhat and produced by Rakshit Shetty, the film won three National Awards.

Apart from winning the Best Kannada Film award, ‘Mithya’ also received the Best Child Artist award for Athish S. Shetty and the Best Supporting Actress award for Roopashree Varkady.
