In a major development at Delhi’s protest epicentre, the Delhi Police on Saturday removed climate activist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar, shifting him to Safdarjung Hospital on the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike. The sudden administrative action triggered immediate and fierce condemnation from opposition parties, who accused the government of trying to suppress democratic dissent.

While the police maintained that the relocation was executed following medical advice and strict court guidelines to safeguard Wangchuk’s deteriorating health, the ground situation escalated. Defying official dispersal orders, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) intensified its parallel stir over the controversial NEET paper leak issue, with its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, launching a fresh, separate indefinite hunger strike to protest police action.

Geetanjali Angmo brings an exceptionally versatile profile to the activist landscape. A seasoned social entrepreneur and modern educator, she is the co-founder of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL), an innovative academy set up in 2017 to design sustainable green technologies, including the famous solar-heated eco-tents engineered for the Indian Army in 2021. Professionally, she is an alumnus of Fakir Mohan University (B.Sc. Physics) and the prestigious Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (MBA).

Before shifting her base back to India, she spent nearly 15 years operating within the corporate circles of Denmark, later founding entrepreneurial ventures like Pushan, Shanghai Power Projects Limited, and Helios Books. A Chevening Scholar at the University of Oxford and recipient of the NITI Aayog’s Women Transforming India Award, Geetanjali also holds a black belt in karate alongside formal training in Odissi and classical Russian ballet.
