England extended their lead to 3–0 in the 37th minute of their FIFA World Cup 2026 third-place play-off against France, with Bukayo Saka scoring the third goal of the match.
The Three Lions were in rampant form during the first half, finding the back of the net three times before the interval. Declan Rice opened the scoring with a superb long-range effort and later provided the assist for Ezri Konsa’s goal from a corner to make it 2–0.
Saka then made it three with a well-composed finish following a swift counter-attacking move. Marcus Rashford drove forward powerfully on the break and unselfishly squared the ball for Saka, who made no mistake in converting from close range.
England’s attacking fluency and precision left the French defence struggling to cope. France’s backline appeared disorganised and vulnerable, and they will need a significant improvement if they are to mount a comeback in the second half.
Despite their defensive woes, France possess enough attacking quality to potentially alter the course of the match. The second half will determine whether they can regroup and challenge England’s commanding advantage.
