Ederson has officially extended his stay at Atalanta, signing a new contract that runs until June 2031. The agreement follows Manchester United’s decision to withdraw from a potential €45 million transfer deal.
The transfer, which included additional performance-related payments, had reportedly been agreed upon and was expected to be finalised after Ederson’s campaign with Brazil at the World Cup.
However, Manchester United later pulled out of the deal, citing medical concerns. Reports indicated that the Premier League side had shifted their focus toward Roma midfielder Manu Kone instead. Atalanta’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli expressed surprise at United’s reversal, insisting that the Brazilian midfielder is in good physical condition. He also confirmed that Atalanta intended to secure Ederson’s future with an improved contract.
According to Sportitalia, the new contract includes a salary of €3.5 million per season along with performance-based bonuses, but notably, it contains no release clause.
The 27-year-old joined Atalanta from Salernitana in the summer of 2022, and his previous contract was due to expire at the end of the current season.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Manchester United’s medical concerns were linked to Ederson’s right knee, which underwent meniscus clean-up surgery in August 2025. Despite that, the midfielder managed to play 3,169 minutes across all competitions last season, demonstrating his fitness and consistency.
With this new long-term deal, Atalanta have successfully retained one of their key midfield assets, reinforcing their commitment to stability and continuity within the squad.
