Tezzbuzz Desk- Garlic is used extensively in Indian kitchen to enhance the taste and aroma of food. The taste of garlic gives a different identity to many types of dishes ranging from pulses, vegetables, chutneys. Apart from this, garlic is also considered beneficial for health, because many nutrients like allicin, vitamin B6, vitamin C, manganese, selenium and antioxidants are found in it.

However, the most difficult task before using garlic is to peel it. It takes a lot of time to remove its thin and sticky layer, especially when preparing large quantities of garlic. If you also find peeling garlic a hassle, then some easy home methods can make your work much easier.

The easiest way to peel garlic is to put its cloves in a steel bowl and place another bowl on top and shake vigorously for a few seconds. Due to this, the outer layer of the garlic becomes loose and the peel of many cloves comes off automatically.

If you need to peel a large amount of garlic, soak the cloves in lukewarm water for about 5 to 10 minutes. After this the peel will come off easily. In this way one does not have to put much force on the hands.

When a garlic clove is lightly pressed with the flat part of a knife, its layer becomes loose. After this the peel can be removed easily. However, be careful while using the knife.

If you are in a hurry, the garlic cloves can be lightly heated in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds. This makes the peel loose and makes it easier to remove. Keep in mind that do not heat the garlic for too long, otherwise its taste and texture may change.

Keep these things in mind while peeling garlic

Always use fresh and good quality cloves to peel garlic. Garlic that is too soft or spoiled can break down quickly. If you are peeling by soaking it in water, do not leave it for too long, as it may affect the taste. Apart from this, peel garlic only as per requirement. Peeled garlic stored for a long time may lose its freshness and aroma.

If you have already peeled the garlic, you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. At the same time, it is better to keep unpeeled garlic in a cool, dry and ventilated place. Avoid keeping garlic in a closed plastic bag, as it can spoil quickly due to moisture. It can be kept fresh for a longer period by keeping it in a net basket, paper bag or open vessel. With the help of these easy methods, the work of peeling garlic will not only become faster, but kitchen time can also be saved.
