Manchester United’s young goalkeeper Solomon Honor has completed a season-long loan move to Southport FC, a club competing in the National League North. The move is designed to provide the 20-year-old with valuable first-team experience throughout the upcoming season.

Honor, a recent addition to the United ranks, joined the club in February and was integrated into the Under-21 squad for the latter part of the campaign. Despite his short time at Old Trafford, he quickly became part of the club’s developmental setup.

Southport officially announced the signing, welcoming the goalkeeper with the message: “Welcome to Southport football club Solomon Honor.”

The club further stated, “Standing at 6 ft 5 in, 20-year-old goalkeeper Solomon Honor arrives as a young shot-stopper with a background in elite academy football. An England youth international, he progressed through the Blackburn Rovers academy before joining Manchester United’s Under-21 setup, gaining experience in a high-performance environment. Let’s get to work.”

Before moving to Manchester United, Honor had spells with Blackburn Rovers and previously with Manchester City. At United, he joined a competitive group of goalkeepers and has yet to make a senior appearance, largely featuring on the bench for Adam Lawrence’s Under-21 side behind Will Murdock.

Manchester United are expected to arrange further loan moves for their young goalkeepers, with Radek Vitek reportedly attracting significant attention. However, Vitek will first travel with the senior squad for their pre-season tour.

Another goalkeeping prospect whose near future remains uncertain is Elyh Harrison. The England Under-20 international has been training under Michael Carrick’s guidance but was not selected for the squad’s trip to Finland to face Wrexham.

Harrison’s career so far has seen mixed fortunes, having enjoyed a successful loan spell at Chester before experiencing a less positive stint at Shrewsbury Town last season. The former Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year will be hoping to rediscover his best form soon.

Interestingly, Solomon Honor is not the only member of his family on Manchester United’s books. His younger brother, Zico Honor, is also a goalkeeper and will be stepping into the Under-15 age group in the upcoming season.

Family ties are a notable aspect of United’s academy structure, with several of the club’s 2026 scholar intake having siblings within the youth setup. Among them, Gazik Ibragimov recently joined his brother Amir Ibragimov for pre-season training in Germany, representing the Under-18 and Under-21 squads respectively.

In addition to siblings, the next generation of footballing families continues to emerge at Carrington. The sons of club legends Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick are among the standout names in the new scholar group, underlining the strong legacy that runs through Manchester United’s youth system.
