Launch of IRCTC Beta Version Website: Millions of passengers travel by Indian trains every day. Consequently, if the railway website hangs or slows down—even for a few minutes—hundreds of thousands of people can face difficulties. To address these issues, Indian Railways has unveiled a revamped version of the IRCTC website after 24 years, featuring a new look and updated capabilities.
Railways launched the beta version of the new IRCTC website on the evening of July 15. You can access the new site directly via the link www.irctc.co.in/eticket/; additionally, a link to the new portal is available on the homepage of the existing website. Let’s explore the special features of this new website.
A New Experience: From Login to Payment
The new website allows for a single-click login. Furthermore, the site operates very quickly, from the initial train search to the final payment page. Information regarding seat availability across different classes is now consolidated in one place.
What Has Changed in the Layout?
In terms of the interface, the site looks completely different from the old one. Pages load rapidly, and there are no intrusive graphics or unnecessary advertisements cluttering the screen. Additionally, the font size has been improved, and the color scheme is more appealing. Overall, the beta version is faster and more user-friendly than the previous site.
Four Major Changes to Expect
Railways has introduced four significant changes in the beta version to enhance the ticket-booking experience for passengers.
These include:
Ticket booking is now free from repetitive CAPTCHA codes, unnecessary pop-ups, and graphics that slow down the site, resulting in a clean, distraction-free interface. Passengers can now view seat availability across all classes (such as 1AC, 2AC, 3AC, and Sleeper) simultaneously, saving time when selecting the right train. The entire ticket-booking process has been streamlined and shortened. You will now have to go through fewer steps for payment and final booking, allowing you to book Tatkal tickets quickly. On the new website, passengers can save their details, enabling the entire process to be completed in just a few clicks for future bookings.
**Website revamped after 24 years**
The current IRCTC website was launched in 2002. The internet landscape has changed completely over the last 24 years. According to a PIB report, approximately 1.45 million (14.5 lakh) train tickets are booked on IRCTC daily. Considering the convenience of millions of people, the Railways has redesigned the entire system. Notably, students from MNIT Jaipur assisted in developing this new website.
**What is a beta version?**
If you are wondering whether you can book a confirmed ticket on this new website, please note that it is currently a beta version. A beta version means that a major software application or website is released to the general public for testing before its full launch.
**How can you help?**
The Railways has asked passengers to use the new website and share their feedback. The website will be further improved based on the feedback received from passengers. According to the Railways, the fully functional final version will be launched in the coming weeks. Additionally, the backend passenger reservation engine is being upgraded to ensure the new website does not hang or crash in the future.
