Democracy once again embarrassed! – Chandrashekhar Azad
Bhim Army chief and Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad wrote on Twitter, ‘Democracy once again put to shame! Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a peaceful indefinite hunger strike for the last 21 days at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, being forcibly taken to the hospital by plainclothes policemen and beating and detaining her along with her colleagues is extremely condemnable and a direct attack on democratic values.”
The MP further said, ‘Earlier, the same thing happened with the ex-servicemen who were on strike for months demanding One Rank One Pension. The peaceful movement of women wrestlers, which brought pride to the country, was also forcefully dispersed. Now the same treatment is being given to Sonam Wangchuk ji’s Satyagraha. Is the right to peaceful protest limited only to the convenience of those in power? We pray to nature to bless Sonam Wangchuk with good health, strength and longevity.”
We will not bow down, we will not disappear – Pushpendra Saroj
On Sonam Wangchuk being taken to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police, Samajwadi Party MP Pushpendra Saroj said, ‘This is very unfortunate. Being an MP and a youth, I had come here before and people had high expectations. A large number of people had gathered in support of the person who has been on hunger strike for 20 days, but the government is not listening to them. Today he was covered with a sheet, barricades were removed and taken to Safdarjung Hospital.”
At the same time, Pushpendra Saroj wrote on X, ‘Is it no longer easy to go on a peaceful fast for one’s demands in a democracy? Sonam Wangchuk, who was on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for 21 days, was taken to the hospital. The question is not just about one person, but whether the government will choose the path of dialogue or will it continue to ignore the voice of opposition? In a democracy, dissent should be respected, not suppressed.” Along with this, the MP said, ‘We will not bow down, we will not disappear and we will not retreat. I stand with the youth in their fight.”
