New Delhi. Due to a deep low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal, torrential rains and strong thunderstorms are expected in 15 states of the country in the next few hours. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a major alert for a large part of the country. Meteorologists claim that during this period, destructive winds can blow at a speed of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour in many areas of India.

Heavy rain alert issued in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, its effect will be seen from the plains of North India to South and Central India. The list of main states affected includes Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Apart from this, there has been a warning of landslides and overflow of rivers due to extremely heavy rains in hilly areas like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, there is a possibility of very strong winds and stormy rains in the states of Eastern and South India like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana. Also, the Meteorological Department has given a special warning for the entire region including the northeastern states of India like Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Heavy rain along with severe lightning and strong cyclonic winds are expected in these areas.
Administration Preparation and Safety Instructions
Considering the severity of the inclement weather, disaster management teams like NDRF and SDRF have been put on alert mode. Also, fishermen have been given strict instructions not to go into the sea during this period, and tourists traveling on hilly roads have been appealed to stay at safe places. People living in low-lying areas have been warned to beware of waterlogging and flood-like situations.
