A young man lost his life during an alleged attempt to seize a government rifle from security personnel in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, three members of the Special Operations Group (SOG) sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred approximately 35 kilometers from the town of Bhaderwah on the Jai-Gandoh road, as reported by officials on Friday.

Following the incident, tensions escalated in the Bhaderwah area, leading hundreds of residents to take to the streets in protest. Demonstrators expressed their sorrow over the event and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the matter. In response to the deteriorating situation, authorities temporarily suspended internet services in certain parts of the Chenab Valley and heightened security measures.

According to a senior police officer, a team from the SOG was stationed on the Jai-Gandoh road after receiving reports of suspicious activities in the elevated region. Around 11:30 PM, the team stopped a young man passing by, during which he allegedly attacked the security personnel in an attempt to grab their government rifle. The officer noted that during the scuffle, a weapon discharged, hitting the young man.

Both the injured young man and the three police officers were promptly transported to the sub-district hospital in Bhaderwah, from where they were referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Doda for advanced treatment. Dr. Tanveer Ahmed, the medical superintendent at Doda District Hospital, stated that the injured were brought in around 3 AM, but unfortunately, 30-year-old Arif Hussain had already succumbed to his injuries before arrival. The condition of the injured officers remains stable.

Arif Hussain, a resident of Chika village, is survived by his pregnant wife and four-year-old child, both of whom joined the protests demanding justice. Family members have alleged that Arif was murdered. To manage the situation, authorities have detained a religious preacher, and the police are conducting a thorough investigation into the entire incident while monitoring the situation closely.
