US President Donald Trump will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday.
Trump’s appearance comes after he has missed the tournament’s first 102 matches.
The US president did not attend any of the United States’ five games during the tournament, which has been jointly hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico.
As per the White House’s confirmation, Trump will be in attendance when Argentina face Spain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the president’s plans, saying: “We look forward to the final match on Sunday, and I know the president looks forward to attending.”
“This is a fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America’s ability to host the world on the grandest stage.”
Trump is also expected to join FIFA president Gianni Infantino in presenting the World Cup trophy to the winning captain after the match.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino recently spoke to a Swiss media outlet expressing his plans to present the trophy with the US President.
The FIFA chief also revealed that Trump has been following the tournament from afar and has “really enjoyed” watching matches on television.
