FIFA to Honour World Cup Champions with Super Bowl-Inspired Rings

FIFA has announced that the winners of the upcoming World Cup final between Argentina and Spain will be awarded Super Bowl-style rings, with the presentation ceremony to be attended by United States President Donald Trump.

The rings are being marketed as a strictly limited-edition series. Thirty rings will be presented to the victorious team on Sunday, while an additional 1,996 rings will be made available for fans to purchase.

Each ring will feature a miniature World Cup trophy as part of its design, along with an engraving on the inner band. The design will be customised to reflect the heritage and culture of the winning nation.

The winning team’s captain and head coach will receive temporary rings immediately after the final as a symbolic gesture, before the 30 official rings are custom-fitted and delivered at a later date.

FIFA confirmed that this initiative mirrors the long-standing American sporting tradition, where champions of major leagues such as the NBA also receive ornate winner rings to commemorate their triumphs.

President Trump is scheduled to play a central role in the award ceremony, officially handing over the World Cup trophy to the champions. The final will mark his first attendance at a match during the tournament.

Despite the United States reaching the quarter-finals on home soil, Trump was notably absent from all of their matches, including the quarter-final defeat to Belgium.

However, the U.S. president drew controversy earlier in the tournament when he reportedly contacted FIFA president Gianni Infantino, with whom he shares a close public relationship, to press for a review of star forward Folarin Balogun’s red card.

The outcome of that intervention was highly unusual, as FIFA invoked a rarely cited clause in its regulations to overturn the suspension and make Balogun eligible for the fixture against Belgium.

Trump later acknowledged making the call to Infantino, reinforcing claims of political interference in the tournament and prompting widespread criticism over FIFA’s handling of the matter and concerns about sporting integrity.

The final will take place at MetLife Stadium, where President Trump will be in attendance. The pre-match ceremony will include the playing of the U.S. national anthem — an American sporting custom that some have found peculiar given that the U.S. team is not participating in the final.
